Students had the privilege of attending the third annual SEU Ohio retreat at the Kalahari African-themed waterpark in Sandusky. This gives students at SEU Ohio a chance to relax and play at the water park, worship together, and hear anointed conference speakers.
The SEU Ohio retreat is a community-building time, because it allows our residential, commuter, and online students to come together from all over the state. For online student, Brandon Beckwith, this was his first opportunity to meet other SEU Ohio students. He says, “The guys were terrific. They did a great job of making me feel welcome and feel a part of the SEU Ohio family, considering that I did not know anyone.” Another online student, Katie Cunningham, appreciated the student community saying, “My favorite part of the weekend was getting to see what the SEU Ohio culture is like a little bit more and making friends with everyone.”
Aaron Moore, a second-year commuter student, said one of his favorite aspects of the retreat was getting to “hang out with everyone and get to know them more.”
We had evening and morning SEU Ohio devotions and spent long days in the water park, followed by great nights of worship and deep services where God impressed on us the importance of personal devotion and prayer. SEU Ohio ministered in worship to the pastors’ teens who attended the associated pastor’s retreat. Worship leader, Sarah Pike, commented that the worship was “very passionate and genuine.”
Outside of services, students were welcome to join in sessions led by some of Ohio’s best teachers. Josie Cioffe, who is doing her student ministry practicum with the Ohio Church Multiplication Network (OCMN), reflected on her time with keynote speaker John Lindell after the OCMN luncheon, calling it “insightful and inspiring” towards what her future in church planting could become. Cioffe said, “Outside of services, my favorite part of the retreat was at night when we got to play cards and just bond closer with each other in a new environment.” Not only is this a place for SEU Ohio students to come together and get to know each other better, this retreat is also a time for them to network with ministers and leaders from all over Ohio.
Overall, SEU Ohio retreat is a favorite event among us students. It is a time to get away together, meet great mentors, refocus on our studies, and relax as we dive back into classes. It is a great opportunity to pause and appreciate the path God has us on before the rest of spring semester begins to fly by.
